Until May 31st, Tribal and Federal Law does not restrict human access to rookeries and haul outs, however, it is against Tribal and Federal law to disturb marine mammals. Be considerate before accessing a rookery and potentially causing a disturbance that may force the seals into the water before they are ready to depart. Females and their pups still utilize the rookeries and haul outs during the fall months. Beachcombers take into consideration whether accessing a rookery is necessary. Hunters, please consider different approaches to access sea lions to minimize disturbance. Firearms being discharged over a rookery may lead to permanent departure of females before they are ready. NOAA Enforcement will
be patrolling the rookeries for human disturbance of marine mammals. Contact ECO at 615-5306 if you are uncertain about rookery access, disturbance regulations or have any questions.
